Exactly one week ago, the headline news was the same: precious metals and cryptocurrency prices were slipping following fresh escalation between the U.S. and Iran.

Attacks from both sides yesterday sent opening bitcoin and ethereum prices to their lowest levels so far this week. With one week to go before the Fed concludes its two-day, rate-setting meeting, oil prices (BZ=F) at $100 a barrel and expectations for a 25-basis-point rate increase are growing.

If the fighting between the U.S. and Iran continues this week, keeping oil prices elevated or even pushing them higher, and the Fed raises rates, that is likely to put downward pressure on crypto prices since these risk-based investments do not pay interest.
