Supporters of Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 110 or BIP-110 have revived a breakaway chain that had gone quiet after an early August split, pairing a new mining algorithm with a much smaller block limit.

The minority network forked from Bitcoin at block 961,632 when nodes enforcing BIP-110 began rejecting blocks that did not signal support for tighter limits on non-financial data.

With almost no hash power behind it, the chain stalled after only a handful of blocks on August 8.

This past weekend, backers restarted production. Reports say more than 800 blocks have now been mined on the revived branch.

Developer Luke Dashjr changed the proof-of-work function from SHA-256d to Blake2b.

That switch is intended to sidestep specialized ASIC hardware that dominates Bitcoin mining and to let ordinary computers participate.

At the same time, the maximum block size was cut to 300 KB, far below Bitcoin’s 1 MB base and 4 MB weight limits.

The first block under the new Blake2b rules was mined by Silent Wave at height 961,640.

The original BIP-110 idea, often called the Reduced Data Temporary Soft Fork, aimed to curb inscriptions, large OP_RETURN payloads, and similar data for about one year.

It never won the 55 percent miner signaling needed for a clean activation.
