Bitcoin retreated from an eight-month high during Asian trading on Tuesday after surging more than 13% in just four trading sessions, with market attention now focused on whether the $84,000 level can serve as a foundation for a new uptrend.

The rally lifted Bitcoin roughly $10,000 from last week's low, returning it to levels not seen since late January this year. According to market data, Bitcoin touched a high of $87,381 during U.S. trading hours before pulling back to around $85,500 in the Asian session. Despite profit-taking pressure, the current price remains well above last week's low, prompting many traders to reassess the market's direction.

Rich Rosenblum, co-founder of crypto market maker GSR, noted that Bitcoin's rapid return above $80,000 has convinced traders that the bear market phase is over, with momentum attracting capital that had been sitting on the sidelines—making the path of least resistance to the upside. However, he also issued a warning: "The risk is that this could be a macro liquidity trade dressed up in crypto clothing. If that's the case, any volatility in risk assets would put significant pressure on Bitcoin."

Short Liquidations Fuel the Surge

Large-scale short position liquidations played a critical role behind the sharp rally. According to data compiled by Coinglass, total liquidations across digital asset long and short positions exceeded $1 billion over the past 24 hours, with short positions accounting for approximately $840 million.
