Coinbase Becomes First Major Regulated Exchange to Offer Crypto Perpetuals in Canada

Coinbase has launched regulated crypto derivatives for eligible Canadian investors, offering perpetual and dated futures with up to 10x leverage as the exchange expands its international derivatives business.

Coinbase Launches Crypto Perpetuals in Canada

Through Coinbase Financial Markets (CFM), eligible Canadian traders can now access 23 perpetual and dated crypto futures. The contracts cover Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and 20 other digital assets. As a result, sophisticated investors can hedge existing positions or trade in either market direction.

CFM operates as a futures commission merchant registered with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. In Canada, the company offers these contracts under an international exemption, while access remains limited to eligible sophisticated and institutional investors under Canadian securities rules.

Meanwhile, nano-sized contracts allow traders to participate with lower upfront capital requirements. Users can take long or short positions with leverage of up to 10x. For a limited period, introductory pricing starts at 0.02% per trade plus $0.11 per contract.

Coinbase Adds Commodities and Index Futures

Beyond crypto, the Canadian derivatives rollout includes five commodity futures, with contracts linked to gold, silver and oil. Index products such as COIN50 are also available, expanding the range of markets accessible through the platform.
