PHOENIX (KVOA) - Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced her office has secured full refunds for dozens of cryptocurrency ATM scam victims under a state law designed to combat fraud at digital currency kiosks.
Since the Cryptocurrency Kiosk License Fraud Prevention law went into effect in September 2025, the Attorney General's Office has helped 35 victims recover a combined $171,332 from fraudulent transactions, according to the office. The law mandates that victims must report scams within 30 days of the transaction to qualify for reimbursement.
"My office is happy to help any victim of crypto ATM fraud receive a refund they are entitled to under Arizona law," Mayes said. "Knowing the signs of crypto ATM fraud can help protect you and your loved ones, but if you have fallen victim to this scam, contact my office right away."
The legislation requires cryptocurrency kiosk and ATM operators to provide complete refunds, including all associated fees, to customers who report fraud within the 30-day timeframe. Victims must file complaints with either the Attorney General's Office or local law enforcement to initiate the refund process.
Officials are urging anyone who suspects they completed a cryptocurrency ATM transaction due to a scam to take immediate action. The Attorney General's Office recommends filing a complaint as soon as possible, as delays of even a few days could result in missing the deadline for refund eligibility.
