The world of work is entering the next phase of the AI revolution. In recent years, we have used artificial intelligence as a tool to assist with coding, writing, searching, analyzing and streamlining tasks. Now, AI agents are moving beyond simply helping employees get the job done. They are taking on tasks and roles of their own, managing entire processes and becoming increasingly autonomous. This shift is reshaping the role of the human worker, transforming employees from people who use AI into people who manage it.

This transition is taking tangible form with the expansion of Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent platform. The company is introducing a new portfolio of “ready-to-work” AI agents designed to execute business tasks across sales, service, commerce, employee experience and back-office operations. These agents connect to Customer 360, operating on the basis of existing organizational data and business processes. They come equipped with role-specific capabilities, while new Agentforce technologies enable them to pursue long-term goals, acquire new skills, collaborate with other agents and continuously improve.

The shift promises to transform not only how we work, but also organizational structures, team sizes and the skills employers seek. Employees will need to define goals for agents, manage multiple agents simultaneously, evaluate their outputs and determine when they can operate autonomously and when human intervention is required.
