Fintech Firm Block ($XYZ) Expands Bitcoin Treasury To Over 9,100 BTC Crowdfund Insider

Block, Inc. (NYSE: XYZ), the payments and financial technology firm co-founded by tech entrepreneur and bilionaire Jack Dorsey, has grown its long-term Bitcoin holdings to 9,117 BTC as of June 30, 2026. The update appears in the company’s quarterly report filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

This total marks an increase from the 8,883 BTC reported at the close of 2025.

Across the first six months of 2026 the firm acquired 234 additional bitcoins specifically for investment purposes—149 in the first quarter and 85 in the second.

Management confirmed that none of these investment holdings were sold during the period.

At the end of June the investment position carried a fair value of roughly $533.9 million against a cost basis of approximately $310 million.

Because Bitcoin is treated as an indefinite-lived intangible asset under current accounting rules, the company remeasures the position to fair value each reporting period.

Declines in the cryptocurrency’s market price produced remeasurement losses of $88.5 million in the second quarter and $261.3 million for the full six-month stretch.

Separate from the long-term treasury, Block also maintained about 299 BTC at quarter-end for day-to-day operations.

These coins, valued near $19.5 million, support customer buying and selling activity on Cash App and are classified among other current assets.

The continued accumulation aligns with Block’s broader strategy of treating Bitcoin as both a treasury asset and a core element of its product ecosystem.

Cash App already enables users to buy, sell, and hold the cryptocurrency, while other initiatives such as hardware wallets and related services reinforce the company’s long-standing interest in open financial systems.

Despite the mark-to-market losses on the Bitcoin position, Block’s overall second-quarter results showed solid momentum in its core businesses.

Adjusted earnings per share rose sharply year-over-year, revenue grew, and gross profit expanded, driven largely by Cash App and Square.

The Bitcoin Ecosystem segment faced softer revenue, partly reflecting lower fees on certain transactions, yet the company continued to allocate capital toward additional Bitcoin purchases.

Corporate Bitcoin treasuries have become more common among publicly traded firms, and Block’s updated figure places it among the larger holders tracked by independent monitors.

The purchases occurred without fanfare and without any indication of near-term liquidation plans.

Management has previously described cryptocurrency as consistent with its corporate purpose of economic empowerment and has signaled an intention to hold the investment position for the long term while periodically reassessing its place on the balance sheet.

Volatility remains a central risk. Sharp moves in Bitcoin’s price can produce sizable non-cash gains or losses that flow through the income statement, as seen in the first half of 2026.

Still, the steady, methodical additions over successive quarters illustrate a deliberate approach rather than opportunistic trading.

As of the latest filing, Block’s Bitcoin investment stands at 9,117 coins. The company has not disclosed any subsequent changes, and the operational holdings continue to serve customer activity on its platforms.
