Ledger is putting its technology backbone and security posture under a single executive to match the speed of modern cyber risks. The company says concentrating cyber and infrastructure security, product security, physical and workplace protection, internal IT, and enterprise risk with one leader should help its protections adapt as attackers get more sophisticated.
The backdrop: criminals are leaning on AI to level up phishing plays and deepfake impersonations, and the growing use of blockchains for everyday assets like stocks and bonds raises the stakes when things go wrong.
The attack drumbeat behind the timing
This year's numbers tell the story. DefiLlama reports that in 2026, hackers have taken roughly $1.4 billion across 250 attacks, whereas 2025 totaled $2.7 billion over 146 incidents.
The hits keep coming. Earlier this week, the Liquid Network suffered a breach that siphoned roughly $320 million worth of Bitcoin. Last week, hardware wallet maker Trezor disclosed that a breach at one of its shipping vendors revealed personal data for tens of thousands of customers. And earlier this year, a compromise of the popular offline wallet Coldcard rattled confidence in what many had considered among the safest storage options.
