Polygon has added a crypto checkout option to its Open Money Stack, the payments infrastructure it announced on September 30 in a company blog post. The new feature lets merchants place a “Pay with Crypto” option alongside their existing card and bank methods, so customers can settle in stablecoins or other crypto while the store receives its preferred payout currency.

Pay from any wallet and settle in crypto or fiat

Checkout is built to accept payment from any wallet, token, or chain and convert it into the currency the merchant wants to receive. Polygon’s cross-chain routing works out the path at the time of purchase, handling any swaps, bridging, and network fees needed along the way. The customer sees the price, chooses a wallet balance, and confirms the payment without leaving the store to swap tokens or move money to the merchant’s preferred network first. A customer could pay with USDC on Polygon while the store settles the order in dollars, euros, or another supported currency. The merchant does not need a separate integration for each wallet, token, or chain.

Chargeback protection and a Stripe-friendly rollout

Because crypto payments settle near-instantly and cannot be reversed by a payment processor, Checkout removes processor chargebacks from settled sales, a flow Polygon pitches to businesses with high chargeback exposure such as digital goods, gaming, travel, and ticketing. A card payment can look complete and still be reversed weeks later if the issuer accepts a dispute; a settled crypto payment stays settled. The feature also works alongside an existing Stripe setup: Stripe keeps handling the merchant’s card methods while Polygon OMS adds Pay with Crypto and connects the stablecoin payment to settlement on Polygon rails.
