Quantinuum convened 30 researchers from chemistry and quantum computing at Newnham College, Cambridge for a five-day intensive program this September. The company’s first InQuanto Summer School, supported by the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre, addressed a critical skills gap where researchers typically specialize in only a few of the areas needed for successful quantum chemistry research. Participants applied concepts to problems ranging from molecular electronic structure to quantum state-preparation circuits, using Quantinuum’s InQuanto software platform.

InQuanto Summer School Bridges Quantum Computing and Chemistry

Participants translated chemistry problems into formats compatible with quantum computers during the five-day InQuanto Summer School held at Newnham College, Cambridge. The intensive program combined lectures with hands-on exercises designed to bridge expertise gaps between computational chemistry and quantum computing, a challenge acknowledged by Duncan Gowland, Senior Advanced R&D Scientist at Quantinuum, who noted the program’s focus on connecting fundamental concepts with practical research.

Quantinuum’s initiative received support from the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC), highlighting a collaborative push between private industry and national research infrastructure to advance quantum chemistry, the company says. The NQCC’s partnership was instrumental in bringing the program to life, according to Quantinuum, and enabled a focused curriculum addressing a specific bottleneck in the field.
