Uyeda expressed the view that with the SEC preparing for a "180-degree shift" in legal interpretation, the agency could not continue to have its litigation staff defend the old interpretations in court. According to him, the judgment was that continuing to defend legal positions that are likely to be overturned soon would itself pose a risk of damaging the SEC's credibility.
Innovation Exemption Framework Positioned as a "Pilot"
Beyond the lawsuit dismissals, Uyeda also addressed the SEC's new innovation exemption framework targeting security tokens. He described the framework as "a kind of pilot" and indicated it would bring substantial potential opportunities to both new market entrants and existing traditional financial institutions.
