TradFi-Linked Perpetuals Overtake Bitcoin in Binance Futures Volume

In a notable shift within the cryptocurrency derivatives market, perpetual futures tied to traditional finance (TradFi) assets have surpassed Bitcoin in trading volume on Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange. According to data from K33 Research, as reported by Unfolded, the 30-day average trading volume for TradFi-linked perps reached $15.59 billion, nearly double the $7.39 billion recorded for Bitcoin perpetual futures over the same period.

Market Dynamics: The Rise of TradFi-Linked Perpetuals

As of mid-August, products linked to traditional finance assets accounted for more than one-third of Binance’s total perpetual futures trading volume. This marks a significant increase from the start of the year, when such products averaged around $3 billion in daily volume. In contrast, Bitcoin perpetual futures have seen a decline, with volume dropping from a peak of $16 billion at one point earlier in the year.

The trend indicates a broadening of market interest beyond Bitcoin, with traders increasingly turning to perpetual futures tied to assets like equities, commodities, and fiat currencies. This diversification reflects a maturing derivatives market that offers more granular exposure to traditional financial instruments within a crypto-native trading environment.
