A Amazon em breve encerrará sua plataforma de trabalho coletivo de 21 anos, chamada Mechanical Turk, disse a empresa na terça-feira.

"Avaliamos regularmente nossos programas, ferramentas e serviços e fazemos ajustes com base nessas avaliações", diz um aviso postado no site do Mechanical Turk, ou MTurk. "Após uma avaliação, tomamos a decisão de encerrar o AWS Mechanical Turk, a partir de 30 de setembro de 2026."

Lançado em 2005, o Mechanical Turk conecta legiões de trabalhadores a tarefas digitais simples, ou "Human Intelligence Tasks", que normalmente pagam alguns centavos por tarefa. Elas incluem rotulagem de dados, transcrição de áudio ou vídeo ou resposta a pesquisas.

O fundador da Amazon, Jeff Bezos, descreveu o serviço como "inteligência artificial artificial", pois terceirizava tarefas que poderiam ser facilmente concluídas por humanos, mas se mostravam desafiadoras demais para computadores.

O serviço recebeu seu nome do original Mechanical Turk, um robô enxadrista do século XVIII que era, na verdade, controlado por um mestre de xadrez humano. A Amazon concebeu originalmente a ideia para ajudar na rotulagem de grandes quantidades de dados em sua vasta loja virtual, informou o The New York Times.
