Anthropic, OpenAI CEOs warn AI could threaten humanity without safeguards

The CEOs of two of the world's leading AI companies warned the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday that rapidly advancing AI could pose an existential threat if governments and the industry fail to keep the technology under human control.

"If managed poorly, I even believe AI could be a risk to humanity as a whole," said Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, said.

His competitor, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, echoed the concern.

"We could lose control of the future to AI," Altman said. "The risk is that it moves so fast that people can no longer follow what's happening or intervene when needed. This would obviously be terrible."
