Barnstable Police have received several recent reports of scammers pretending to be from the County Sheriff's Office.

The scammers tell their potential victims they missed jury duty or they're wanted on a warrant, but they can clear things up with a cryptocurrency payment.

In three incidents this week, the scammers used one particular Bitcoin ATM in Barnstable for victims to conduct the transactions for an attempted loss of up to 30-thousand-dollars.

Anyone who receives a call threatening arrest and demanding money should hang up immediately and contact police.
