The address, identified as 18VmXvkF4cgLi35RtMiHHDpvMjUCyVpQ9x, sent approximately 4,582 BTC to five separate destinations on Oct. 12, according to blockchain data from Arkham and mempool.space. Four of the recipient addresses received exactly 1,000 BTC each, while the fifth took in about 582 BTC. As of Oct. 13, none of the receiving wallets had spent any of the coins.
The transfer was confirmed in block 971,126 at approximately 18:37 UTC, with Bitcoin trading around $82,350. The transaction fee was remarkably low at just 732 satoshis, or about 60 cents, underscoring the efficiency of moving large values on the Bitcoin network.
A Six-Year Hold Through Turmoil
The wallet originally received its coins on March 3, 2020, when the 4,581.95 BTC was worth approximately $40.8 million. The funds arrived via a transaction that split a larger 5,081.95 BTC balance three ways, with 250 BTC directed to each of two other addresses.
Nine days later, the Covid-19 pandemic triggered a global market panic. Bitcoin plunged more than 40%, briefly falling below $4,000. The whale's holdings dropped from roughly $40.5 million to about $17.6 million during that period, yet the owner did not sell.
