California man gets 15 years for his involvement in CT kidnapping, attempted robbery of Bitcoin

A California man who was involved in a Danbury kidnapping and bitcoin robbery scheme in 2024 has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.

Adam Iza, 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala in Hartford to 180 months in prison  followed by three years of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

Court records show that, on Aug. 25, 2024, officers from the Danbury Police Department arrested six Florida men who were reportedly involved in a violent carjacking of a Lamborghini Urus and the kidnapping of the two people in the vehicle.

The investigation determined that the kidnapping victims were the parents of a man who allegedly participated in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin, according to court records.

“In an attempt to steal some of that Bitcoin, Iza and others planned and coordinated the attempted robbery and ultimately the kidnapping,” federal officials said.

According to federal officials, Iza’s alleged co-conspirator had an altercation with the victims’ son in a Miami nightclub in July 2024 and was reportedly in regular communication with some of the alleged kidnappers in the days before the crime. Federal official also alleged that he provided funding for it, and helped arrange the kidnappers’ transportation and lodging.
