Everything Announced at OpenAI DevDay: Subscription Changes, New Models and Dots

DevDay is OpenAI’s annual event for software developers, at a moment in the AI industry when OpenAI is under intense scrutiny from everyone — consumers, global governments, investors and more. So this is how the AI company is attempting to answer some questions about its agentic and coding AI technology, including new updates rolling out now.

OpenAI’s answer to everyone’s safety concerns over AI agents — like the kind that hacked HuggingFace, and US and Australian government websites — is to make them cute. Dots are the company’s new AI agents, complete with multicolored blob-shaped mascots. They’re powered by OpenAI’s most advanced model, GPT-6 Astra, and are available now for Pro, Business Premium and enterprise subscribers.

OpenAI also dropped GPT-6.1 Sol, an update for the second-most-powerful ChatGPT model. GPT-6.1 Sol aims to be a more budget-friendly option, with OpenAI saying it has Astra-level intelligence at a fifth of the price. That matters for enterprise or business users, who may rack up a huge bill by using the latest, most compute-intensive AI model.

You’ll also be able to get your answers from ChatGPT Work and Codex even quicker with a brand-new “ultrafast” mode. OpenAI says this speedy mode gives you results in its business-oriented work experiences up to eight times as fast in Codex. Ultrafast is available with Astra, with plans to bring it to GPT-6.1 Sol soon.
