Police in Newbury, Massachusetts, prevented an active crypto ATM scam. The officer was approached by a 75-year old woman who claimed a government agent wanted her to deposit cash into a bitcoin ATM, according to a report by Boston 25 News.
The officer attempted to call the person demanding money, but the person hung up after it was discovered they were speaking to police. The woman had already withdrawn $11,000 from her bank to deposit into the ATM.
Currently there is no active law limiting bitcoin ATM deposits in the state of Massachusetts, although there is Senate Bill 804 which was introduced in 2025.
