In brief

  • OpenAI launched dots, always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra that run on their own cloud computers, for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets.
  • GPT-6.1 Sol nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on coding and computer use at one-fifth of Astra's token prices, according to OpenAI.
  • The new Ultrafast tier runs up to 8x faster in Codex and up to 6x in the API, and comes bundled with the $500-a-month Pro 500 plan.

OpenAI spent DevDay 2026 pitching the idea that your next coworker could be an AI with its own computer.

The company announced more than 20 launches on Tuesday in San Francisco. They range from always-on agents called “Dots” to a cheaper model, a confirmation of the rumored $500 tier, and a shared workspace where humans and bots edit the same documents.

The event’s mood felt like cementing the idea that AI is moving from a chatbot you consult to a worker you assign things to. One that has its own computer, connects to your work apps, and keeps going while you sleep.

A day earlier, OpenAI pulled its next flagship, GPT-6.1 Astra, because it did not meet safety standards. This comes after a summer in which OpenAI's agents breached the open-source repository Hugging Face, the Australian and U.S. governments, and private companies.
