Cofundador de fundo de negociação de criptomoedas de San Francisco é condenado por fraude

SAN FRANCISCO — Um júri federal condenou na segunda-feira o cofundador de um fundo de negociação de criptomoedas sediado em San Francisco por fraudar mais de 20 investidores em quase $1 milhão, disseram as autoridades.

Japheth Dillman, 48, de San Francisco, foi considerado culpado de uma acusação cada de fraude eletrônica e conspiração para cometer fraude eletrônica, informou a Procuradoria dos EUA em um comunicado à imprensa. O veredito seguiu-se a um julgamento de 10 dias.

Evidências apresentadas no julgamento mostraram que Dillman e um coconspirador levantaram fundos de investidores enganando-os sobre as capacidades e a lucratividade da Block Bits Capital, disseram as autoridades.

De junho de 2017 a agosto de 2018, Dillman e outros levantaram dinheiro de investidores alegando que o fundo lucraria com a negociação automatizada de criptomoedas usando uma ferramenta de software chamada “Autotrader”.

As autoridades disseram que Dillman sabia que a ferramenta não funcionava e que os fundos dos investidores não eram e não podiam ser usados como prometido.

Dillman e seu coconspirador usaram os fundos para pagar a si mesmos e para fazer investimentos de risco e especulativos em outros empreendimentos de criptomoedas, disseram as autoridades, citando outras evidências apresentadas no julgamento.
