  • Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission issued 11 notifications establishing a crypto ETF framework that takes effect Oct. 16, limited at launch to Bitcoin and Ethereum.

  • Only licensed Thai asset management companies can issue the funds, which must trade exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand and hold at least 80% of net asset value in the tracked asset.

  • Margin loans for buying crypto ETFs are banned, and investors must complete a risk acknowledgment before trading.

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission issued regulations Thursday for crypto exchange-traded funds, with the framework set to take effect Oct. 16. The rules limit eligible assets at launch to Bitcoin (

BTC

) and Ethereum (

ETH

).

The move extends Thailand's crypto market beyond the institutional-only Bitcoin ETF it approved in 2024, opening a regulated path for mutual and private funds to hold crypto-linked products for the first time.

The SEC issued 11 notifications covering the framework, according to

its

announcement

. The rules require each

exchange-traded fund (ETF)

to passively track a single crypto asset and maintain average annual net exposure of at least 80% of net asset value, with derivatives barred as a substitute for direct holdings.
