US-listed Bitcoin ETFs are $1 billion behind for the year, the difference between redemptions and deposits since January, shows data from September 8. This was no gradual process; inflows came quickly and strongly in a run that lasted three weeks into early September, netting roughly $3.8 billion. The inflows were also very focused; on September 3, one day brought $730.9 million worth of inflows into the ETFs, while the entire week ending September 5 saw $986.9 million brought in on its own – and it was enough to bring the year-to-date amount back below the $1 billion mark.
This happened in August, and it was labeled as the best month of the year for the category. Net inflows reached $3.52 billion over the month, reversing a pattern that had defined the middle of the year.

Damage was done earlier on. The period in June 2026 saw an estimated $4.5 billion in redemptions. Even May was already seeing losses, and in combination, the two months made up for the accumulated loss from which August and September have seen gradual erosion. The same thing under the headline Bitcoin ETFs still $1 billion away from breaking even in 2026, but this particular piece was not accessible via a bot verification screen at the time of writing.
