Litecoin has been outpacing Bitcoin lately, but a massive gap from its all-time high tells a more complicated story about which crypto actually has the stronger case for new investors right now.

Litecoin (CRYPTO: LTC) needs to rise about 537% as of October 8, 2026, to reclaim its all-time high of $410 reached in May 2021. In contrast, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has a much smaller hurdle, needing only a 52% rise to reach its record of $126,080. Currently, Litecoin is trading at about $64, around 84% below its peak, while Bitcoin is priced near $83,000, about 34% below its highest point.

Recently, Litecoin has outperformed Bitcoin, rising around 18% over the month leading up to October 7. Bitcoin’s growth during this period was much more modest at about 5%. This raises an important question in the Litecoin vs. Bitcoin debate: does a larger gap from the all-time high signal more growth potential, or is Bitcoin the smarter choice as we approach the end of 2026?

Both Litecoin and Bitcoin Have Fixed Supplies

One important feature shared by Litecoin and Bitcoin is their fixed supply. Each cryptocurrency has a hard cap on the total number of coins that can exist. Litecoin’s limit is 84 million coins, with about 77.7 million currently in circulation. Bitcoin has an even stricter cap of 21 million coins, with about 20.1 million already mined.
