Crypto ATMs are now banned in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Changes are coming to Albuquerque after city councilors approved a ban on crypto ATMs, a road safety ordinance and more Wednesday night.

Councilors said the crypto ATMs have high fees and are known to be targeted by scammers. Any already existing crypto ATMs within the city limits must be removed within 45 days.

Councilors also passed an ordinance to try to reduce traffic fatalities. The Quick Build ordinance will ensure, every time the city touches a street for maintenance or restriping, crews will have to look at how they can immediately make the roads safer. That includes traffic paint, pavement markings, flexible traffic posts or concrete elements.

Councilors also approved a plan to require property managers with less than 25 units to establish a recycling program. Complexes with more than 25 units must ensure recycling containers are physically accessible to all residents. There will be an exemption, though, for places where it’s not structurally possible.
