A newly released 2026 financial disclosure for Attorney General Todd Blanche states that the Justice Department's Inspector General declined further action regarding several cryptocurrency transactions previously disclosed by Blanche.

  • The OGE annotation specifically references Blanche's reported transactions involving Bitcoin, Solana, Ethereum Classic, Polygon, Polkadot, Quant and Ethereum.
  • Blanche reported selling $100,001-$250,000 of Bitcoin and $15,001-$50,000 of Ethereum in June 2025, along with smaller cryptocurrency positions.
  • Blanche issued an April 2025 DOJ memo changing the department's digital-asset enforcement policy and disbanding the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team before completing his crypto divestitures.
  • The Campaign Legal Center later asked the DOJ Inspector General to investigate whether Blanche's participation violated federal conflict-of-interest law.
  • The OGE filing says only that the DOJ IG "declined further action" and does not provide the Inspector General's reasoning or characterize the matter as an exoneration.

Why this matters

The matter involves the attorney general’s personal crypto transactions alongside a DOJ policy shift that changed federal digital-asset enforcement and disbanded a specialist enforcement team. The Inspector General’s decision not to take further action may limit immediate oversight consequences, but the sequence could continue to raise conflict-of-interest and enforcement-independence concerns.
