Ethereum's Post-Breakout Consolidation Above $2,400 Seen as Bellwether for Altcoin Market

A widely followed cryptocurrency trader who correctly anticipated XRP's dramatic surge in 2024 is now positioning Ethereum as the clearest technical signal in the digital asset space, with the token's ability to hold a key support level likely to dictate sentiment across the broader altcoin market.

DonAlt, who built his reputation by identifying XRP's rally from below $1 to local highs above $3.60, said Ethereum's daily chart currently shows the "cleanest chart in crypto right now." The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has been consolidating directly above a major breakout zone near $2,400, a pattern he described as "exactly what you'd like to see" following a decisive move higher.

"How ETH trades is probably gonna be indicative of the rest of the market," he wrote in a post on X on August 30, alongside a chart showing the consolidation range.

The trader began publicly accumulating Ethereum on August 13 at approximately $1,878. Since then, the asset has advanced more than 30%, adding roughly $600 in value before entering its current sideways phase. On August 30, ETH was trading between $2,455 and $2,460, having absorbed a 2.7% decline two days earlier without surrendering the breakout level.
