Warsh is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. ET, 19 days before the Fed’s next rate decision. Markets do not expect him to directly say whether rates will be cut or raised in September. Instead, investors will be listening for how he assesses inflation, economic growth and financial conditions, and what changes in those areas could push the Fed toward either lower or higher rates.
Warsh has generally avoided detailed forward guidance, making the conditions he highlights more important than any specific forecast.
According to Bank of America, 69% of fund managers expect Warsh to maintain a neutral stance. That means any unexpected shift could have a larger impact on markets.
Inflation Will Be a Key Focus
Investors are likely to pay close attention to Warsh’s comments on inflation and whether he believes current price pressures could prevent the Fed from lowering rates.
In an interview with bloomberg, Jack Manley said Warsh is unlikely to provide a clear signal on the September decision but could put greater emphasis on inflation in explaining how the Fed makes policy.
