MARA stock rose 4.60% to $11.83 on Tuesday even as Bitcoin slipped about 0.9%. The divergence points to a bigger valuation question: at Bitcoin’s September 8 close, MARA’s last disclosed coin count was worth roughly $2.79 billion, or 61% of the company’s $4.57 billion equity value. The remaining $1.78 billion is not a simple price tag for the mining business because debt, pledged coins and the company’s power-infrastructure strategy all sit inside the calculation.

The move came on 53.3 million shares, about 14% above MARA’s three-month average, according to Yahoo Finance market data. Bitcoin closed at $78,438.58 after opening at $79,114.91, based on daily market data compiled by StatMuse. A Bitcoin miner outperforming the asset it mines on above-average volume is a signal worth examining, although one session cannot establish a durable re-rating.

The treasury explains 61%—but not all of MARA

MARA held 35,577 Bitcoin on June 30. Multiplying that count by Tuesday’s Bitcoin close produces the $2.79 billion gross value. There are two important caveats. The count is not current: MARA sold 23,093 Bitcoin for $1.6 billion during the first half and says it may continue selling coins to fund operations and growth. The treasury also is not equivalent to unrestricted cash.
