The ChatGPT maker announced the pricing reduction Friday on X. The discount applies to GPT-5.6 Sol, the highest-performance model in OpenAI’s latest GPT-5.6 family.
At standard pricing, Sol costs $5 per 1 million input tokens and $30 per 1 million output tokens. A 20% reduction would bring those rates to about $4 for input and $24 for output during the promotional period.
GPT-5.6 Sol was initially released in a limited preview in late June before becoming more broadly available in July. OpenAI staggered the rollout following discussions with the U.S. government because of the model’s advanced capabilities, particularly in cybersecurity.
The GPT-5.6 family includes three primary models aimed at different price and performance levels:
- Sol: Flagship model — $5 per 1 million input tokens and $30 per 1 million output tokens at standard pricing.
- Terra: Lower-cost model — $2.50 input and $15 output per 1 million tokens.
- Luna: Fastest and most economical model — $1 input and $6 output per 1 million tokens.
