OpenAI outage: Thousands of ChatGPT users report widespread problems

Thousands of users are reporting outages across OpenAI’s suite of products Thursday morning, according to data from Downdetector.com.

As of 11 a.m., Downdetector had logged 36,707 outage reports tied to OpenAI — the company behind some of the most widely used artificial intelligence tools in the world, including ChatGPT, DALL-E image generation, GPT-4 language models and its developer-facing API platform.

ChatGPT bearing brunt of outage

Of those reporting issues, 80% say they are experiencing problems with ChatGPT, OpenAI’s flagship conversational AI tool. Another 8% report issues with Codex, the company’s coding-focused AI product, while 7% say they are encountering problems with the OpenAI app.

No word from OpenAI

As of the time of publication, OpenAI had not addressed the outage on any of its social media channels, leaving frustrated users to turn to third-party tracking sites for answers.
