The Zcash comeback is hard to ignore. Having fallen out of the public eye, ZEC$465.18 has jumped more than 1,000% in the past year alone, climbing back up the rankings and into the Top 15 cryptocurrencies by market value. Zcash is up $420, compared with roughly $35-$40 a year ago.

But more importantly, the network itself is evolving. The Zcash comeback is therefore not just a ZEC price speculation but rather a sign that privacy itself may be returning to crypto.

What Is Behind the Zcash Comeback?

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency launched in 2016 as a Bitcoin competitor. While Bitcoin’s blockchain is fully transparent, Zcash gives its users an option to make private transactions. This is achieved through zero-knowledge cryptography that allows shielding sender/receiver addresses and values in a block, thus hiding them from public view.

Back then, privacy coins in general had a hard time attracting investors. They were delisted by exchanges and scrutinized by regulators, which often caused a price collapse. ZEC peaked at $3,191 shortly after launch, but then entered a long period of oblivion and low prices.

That changed in late 2025, as ZEC’s price began its rapid ascent. The token was up $74 in October to more than $600% from where it was at the beginning of the year. Since then, it has seen a large correction but still remains far above its pre-Zcash comeback price.
