The altcoin market may be entering the early stages of an "altseason" after total market capitalization jumped more than 24% in three days.
CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost wrote on Aug. 23 that $215 billion flowed into altcoins between Aug. 19 and Aug. 22, lifting "Total2" — a measure of the total cryptocurrency market capitalization excluding Bitcoin — back above $1 trillion. Smaller-cap altcoins led the advance.
Technical indicators also point to a broader market recovery. During the bear market that has persisted since November 2025, about 80% to 85% of altcoins traded below their 200-day moving average, or 200-DMA, a key long-term trend gauge. Now, 56% of altcoins listed on Binance are trading above that level. That suggests the rebound is not confined to a handful of tokens and may signal a broader turn in market conditions.
