SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci hit back on Sunday at actor-turned-cryptocurrency critic Ben McKenzie for celebrating the CLARITY Act’s Senate defeat, saying nothing can stop Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC).
Scaramucci Reacts to McKenzie’s Celebration
McKenzie, a longtime critic of cryptocurrency and related legislation, was seen enjoying a beer after the Senate adjourned for its August recess without voting on the CLARITY Act.
“This is a win, not for us, but for the vast majority of Americans who are sick of Trump’s crypto corruption,” McKenzie, who starred in the popular TV series, “The O.C,” said. “To the most corrupt president in history and to the crypto bros everywhere, cheers.”
Unimpressed by the celebration, Scaramucci said, "You’re not bright enough to realize that nothing stops Bitcoin.”
The For and Against
McKenzie argues that the CLARITY Act would create a lighter regulatory framework for digital assets by shifting much of the oversight from the SEC to the CFTC, which according to him, has significantly fewer resources.
He has criticized the bill for not including ethics provisions that would prevent elected officials from profiting through cryptocurrency-related businesses while in office, especially in light of President Donald Trump’s reported billion-dollar fortune.
Scaramucci, on the other hand, is a vocal advocate of the legislation. He has been critical of both Democrats and Republicans for failing to reach a bipartisan compromise on the vital legislation that aims to establish clearer rules for the cryptocurrency industry.
