French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux tells Fox News Digital why France is bringing leading AI executives to the UN to address security risks and the protection of young people.

The CEOs of two of the world's leading AI companies warned the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday that rapidly advancing AI could pose an existential threat if governments and the industry fail to keep the technology under human control.

"If managed poorly, I even believe AI could be a risk to humanity as a whole," said Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, said.

SAM ALTMAN IDENTIFIES TWO BIGGEST RISKS FACING AI'S FUTURE

His competitor, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, echoed the concern.

Why this matters

The warnings presented to the UN Security Council signal that frontier-AI governance is becoming an international security concern rather than solely an industry policy issue. Failure to establish effective human oversight could increase the risk of systems advancing faster than governments and institutions can monitor or intervene.

"We could lose control of the future to AI," Altman said. "The risk is that it moves so fast that people can no longer follow what's happening or intervene when needed. This would obviously be terrible."
