The post called the plan almost guaranteed to pass. That description is dated, because the main supply vote has already closed.

The Aptos Foundation first outlined the plan on February 18, 2026. Its official Aptos tokenomics post describes a move from bootstrap-era subsidies to supply rules tied to network activity.
Aptos Token Supply Cap: Why Set the Limit at 2.1 Billion APT?
The token had no maximum supply before this change. The Aptos Tokenomics Update ends with a hard cap of 2.1 billion APT. Of that, 1 billion was minted at mainnet, and 196 million has gone out as staking rewards, leaving 904 million tokens of headroom.
Proposal #183 carried the cap, with 335.2 million tokens in favor and about 1,500 against. Turnout reached 39% of voting power, above the 35% minimum. Votes are recorded on the Aptos governance portal.
APT Staking Rewards and Gas Fee Hike: Who Will Pay More?
The annual staking reward rate falls from 5.19% to 2.6%. The foundation also plans higher rates for longer staking commitments. Validators earn less, though a new validator design under AIP-139 aims to cut hardware costs.
