The primary catalyst for the selloff was a macro shock that impacted the entire crypto market. On September 10, the US Producer Price Index (PPI) inflation came in hotter than expected, reigniting fears of further Federal Reserve tightening. This led to a significant drop in Bitcoin, which fell below $77,000 immediately after the PPI release. Total crypto liquidations spiked to about $562 million in 24 hours, with $484 million of those being long positions. Bitcoin struggled to hold above $80,000 and slid to roughly $78,000, resulting in a 2% decrease in the total crypto market cap and losses of 5–13% for multiple large-cap altcoins. ARB was among the worst performers, dropping about 13% intraday alongside DASH and several others. The backdrop for ARB’s move was not idiosyncratic; a macro inflation surprise and resulting rate-hike fears caused a broad de-risking in crypto, and ARB was pulled into that downdraft.
