Bitcoin: A $1.5M wallet at the heart of a quadruple murder in Mexico

A Bitcoin wallet estimated at 1.5 million dollars appears in the investigation into the murder of Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez, his wife, their 3-year-old daughter and a housemaid. Two suspects were arrested less than twelve hours after the incident. The exact link with the BTC remains to be established: Mexican authorities confirm a money demand and a commercial dispute, but not yet the amount of 1.5 million dollars.

On September 1, he was found dead in his apartment with his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old housemaid. The family dog was also killed. A 6-year-old boy present survived. The case comes as physical assaults related to crypto have already caused over 30 million dollars in losses in 2026.
