Bitcoin Core, the dominant software implementation powering the Bitcoin network, is set to receive a significant upgrade. According to Galaxy Digital analyst Christine Kim, the next major release, Bitcoin Core v32, will introduce three key features aimed at improving block processing speed, transaction management, and fee estimation. These changes are expected to enhance network efficiency and user experience.

Key Improvements in Bitcoin Core v32

The upcoming version focuses on optimizing how the software handles the verification of new blocks. The first major feature is the parallel loading of previous transaction outputs needed for block verification. This means the software will fetch and process the necessary data from the UTXO set (unspent transaction outputs) concurrently, rather than sequentially. This parallelization is expected to reduce the time it takes to validate new blocks, particularly during periods of high transaction volume.

The second change addresses how the network manages transaction flow. Currently, Bitcoin Core limits the number of unconfirmed transactions it accepts from each peer connection. The new version will shift to a network-wide standard for transaction rate limiting. This change aims to create a more consistent and predictable environment for transaction relay, potentially reducing the risk of network spam and improving overall robustness.
