U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds reversed course on Friday, recording $201.8 million in net outflows and halting a nine-session stretch of consecutive inflows as the underlying cryptocurrency fell back below the $78,000 level.

The pullback arrived after a period of unusually strong demand that had funneled more than $3 billion into the funds over the preceding nine trading days. Despite the one-day reversal, August remains firmly in positive territory at $3.3 billion in net inflows with a single U.S. trading session left in the month, according to data from SoSoValue. Total assets across the category slipped to $97.6 billion after crossing the $100 billion threshold on Thursday.

The outflow day did not hit every product equally. ARK 21Shares led the withdrawals with $114.9 million leaving its fund, according to Farside Investors data. The Bitwise Bitcoin ETF shed $49.7 million, while BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust, the largest spot Bitcoin fund by assets, recorded $33.4 million in outflows. Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin Trust bucked the trend as the only fund to post inflows, adding $9.3 million.

While Bitcoin funds struggled, investor appetite for other crypto ETF categories showed no signs of weakening. Spot Ether ETFs pulled in $102.2 million on Friday, extending a run that has not seen net outflows since Aug. 11. XRP funds added $26.2 million, with their last negative day dating back to Aug. 5.
