Bitget Keeps XRP Withdrawals Frozen as 27.63 Million Tokens Move

Bitget’s XRP withdrawals remained suspended Sept. 26 as 27.63 million XRP tied to its security breach moved toward cross-chain swaps, without evidence in the trace of a centralized-exchange sale.

The tokens moved from two of six tracked XRP Ledger accounts connected to the Sept. 24 incident. About 75.35 million XRP remained across those six accounts at 10:54 p.m. ET Sept. 25 (2:54 a.m. UTC Sept. 26).

Most of the tracked route pointed toward Bitcoin through THORChain, a cross-chain swap network. The transactions did not establish who controls the destination wallets or show that the XRP was sold on a centralized exchange.

Unauthorized transfers began at 2:31 p.m. ET Sept. 24 (6:31 p.m. UTC), and about $387.5 million in assets reached attacker-controlled addresses. The revised total included Zcash and TRON assets and did not represent additional transfers.

User balances were unaffected, while trading and deposits continued. Its phased withdrawal schedule listed Bitcoin for Sept. 28, Ether for Sept. 29 and Tether for Sept. 30, all at 4 a.m. ET. “Other tokens” were scheduled for Oct. 2 at 4 a.m. ET, but XRP was not named separately.
