ADA traded at $0.212 on Aug. 27, up 0.8% on the day, as crypto sentiment stayed strong after Bitcoin (BTC) moved to $80,000. Network activity told a different story. DeFiLlama data showed Cardano’s total value locked falling from 509 million ADA on Jan. 1 to 272 million ADA, a decline of 237 million tokens.
DEX volume fell from $56 million on Aug. 22 to $965,000, a 98% drop in five days. TokenTerminal data showed monthly network revenue declining from $20,000 in January to $8,000 in August, while the Dijkstra upgrade is intended to improve network speed and security. Its first phase is due in the fourth quarter.
Derivatives activity also weakened, with CoinGlass showing open interest falling from $582.14 million on Aug. 22 to $485.32 million after $18 million in liquidations through Aug. 27. Futures demand also cooled. The 0.89 long-to-short ratio showed shorts dominating, while futures trading volume fell 15% to $434 million.
