According to the CFTC’s meeting agenda, the opening session, titled “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity,” will examine the future of U.S. crypto regulation and the remaining obstacles to establishing a durable federal digital asset market structure.
Participants are also expected to discuss principles for creating a regulatory framework that supports crypto innovation while maintaining market integrity and protecting customers. The talks have gained importance amid uncertainty over whether the CLARITY Act can clear the Senate and become law this year.
Both the CFTC and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have indicated they could provide additional regulatory guidance while lawmakers debate comprehensive crypto market structure legislation. The SEC has scheduled a meeting to consider potential rules surrounding crypto investment contracts and is also expected to introduce an innovation exemption framework for tokenized stock trading. Such measures could help facilitate 24/7 on-chain trading of traditional financial assets.
