The developers behind the XRP Ledger, the blockchain that powers XRP (CRYPTO: XRP), recently rolled out an emergency fix without conducting the network’s standard validator vote. This has reignited concerns about whether XRP is centralized. Critics argue that the ability to implement a patch without a vote indicates that someone is controlling the network, and they believe the claims of decentralization are merely marketing hype.
The fix, known as version 3.4.1 of the ledger’s server software, addressed an integer overflow issue in the payment engine that had gone unnoticed since 2015. This flaw could have potentially created unauthorized XRP. Fortunately, the XRP Ledger Foundation has stated that no funds were lost during this time.
In response to the critics, XRP Kuwait, an independent validator, issued a statement on October 11, 2026. “Coordination is not the same as control,” they said. While this statement is straightforward, it does come from a group with a vested interest in the network’s reputation.
