Japanese firm Metaplanet has made headlines, but not for a new round of Bitcoin [BTC] accumulation.

According to Onchain Lens data, the firm has moved 800 Bitcoin, worth roughly $62.19 million at the time of the transaction, from its own custody to Coinbase Prime, Coinbase’s institutional trading and custody platform.

Such kinds of transfers usually create room for investors to think that the company is preparing to sell some or all of those coins.

However, the transfer itself does not confirm that a sale has happened. This is because Metaplanet could also be moving the Bitcoin for institutional custody, liquidity management, or an over-the-counter (OTC) transaction.

What’s the intent?

Now, for the broader market, a $62 million potential sell order is large enough to attract attention but relatively small compared with Bitcoin’s overall trading volume. Hence, it would not necessarily trigger a major price decline on its own.

However, such transfers are understandable, as Bitcoin’s price action has been concerning in H1 2026, but with the recent recovery, things are now different in H2 2026.

As AMBCrypto recently reported, the value of Bitcoin held by treasury companies crossed $100 billion for the first time since early June. Their combined holdings reached $109 billion on the 28th of August.
