According to Quantum Insider on the 20th (local time), IBM researchers unveiled a "spacetime probabilistic error cancellation" technique that combines quantum error detection and error mitigation, validating its performance on the actual superconducting quantum processor "IBM Aachen." The technique is described as capable of filtering out up to 65% of errors in advance.
Quantum computers experience frequent errors during computation due to the superposition properties of qubits. Until now, researchers have developed mitigation techniques that reduce errors and correction techniques that detect and fix them as separate tracks. IBM's approach is seen as a step closer to commercialization because it combines both methods and validates them on real hardware.
