Pasqal Partners with USA Rare Earth and Riven Systems to Use Quantum Computing for Rare Earth Separation
Quantum computing may give the United States and its allies another means of lowering their reliance on China for essential rare earth elements, according to a technology firm wagering that the nascent field can boost the efficiency of extracting and processing constrained Western supplies. Pasqal is working with USA Rare Earth and Riven Systems to examine how quantum computing, artificial intelligence and swift chemical testing might enhance the separation and processing of rare earth elements, the company said.
Pasqal chief executive Wasiq Bokhari told the source that the objective is essentially to secure more usable rare earth material from resources already accessible outside China. China wields considerable influence over the worldwide rare-earth supply and processing chain, Bokhari explained, while the United States and its allies are pursuing alternative supply chains for materials employed in magnets, electronics, defense systems and advanced manufacturing.
Bokhari said that when reserves are smaller, it becomes even more crucial to be more efficient at locating a given element. Since rare earth elements generally are not found underground on their own and are mixed with other minerals, chemically separating them can be a complex process.
