Top 3 Trending Crypto Coins Globally Today: Why LAPTOP Trends Despite Falling

As of September 12, 2026, CoinGecko’s global crypto searches are being dominated by smaller, highly volatile tokens rather than Bitcoin (BTC). 

Pons (PONS), STONK, Hunter Biden’s Laptop (LAPTOP) lead the trending list despite falling in the past 24 hours, while Pearl (PRL) has surged more than 55% in seven days, raising questions over whether trending coins represent an opportunity or simply heightened speculation and risk.

According to the latest CoinGecko Top Trending Cryptocurrencies list, STONK, LAPTOP, and NEAR Protocol (NEAR) are the top three trending crypto assets. In the past 24 hours, STONK, LAPTOP, and NEAR declined approximately 8.0%, 16.2%, and 3.6%, respectively. 

Despite the sharp decline, LAPTOP ranks No. 2 among CoinGecko’s most-searched cryptocurrencies, showing that search interest remains high even as its price falls.

There are clear reasons why LAPTOP’s search interest remains high. The launch became a major media event due to the Political Irony. Hunter Biden previously denounced other political memecoins, such as Trump-related tokens, as grifts, before putting his own token tied to one of the most charged symbols of recent U.S. politics. 

Volatility is also a reason for searches, as people look at charts, the news, and social talk when a new token is moving violently.
