Shares of blockchain infrastructure company Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) fell 3.1% in the morning session after a broad crypto market downturn prompted by a hawkish monetary outlook from the Bank of Japan and escalating geopolitical risks. The crypto market came under pressure following reports that Japan's central bank was planning to raise interest rates. At the same time, rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran reduced investor demand for riskier assets. This sentiment was reflected in Bitcoin's drop to retest the $62,000 level and $131 million in outflows from Bitcoin ETFs on August 13. Adding to the negative sentiment, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) canceled its open meeting planned for the same day, citing an “unforeseen scheduling issue,” which created further uncertainty in the sector.
After the initial drop, the shares shed some of the losses and rose to $150.63, down 2.1% from the previous close.
