Koinly is the strongest general-purpose choice for 2026, built around a free preview that lets any investor check their numbers before paying for a report. The platform imports data from exchanges, wallets and blockchains, matches transfers between an investor's own accounts, and calculates gains using the cost basis method a jurisdiction requires.

The free plan covers real functionality, not a stripped-down demo. Investors can connect wallets and exchanges, see a running total of capital gains and losses, and preview what a paid report would show. The only feature locked behind payment is the export itself — the finished tax report, ready for a filer or an accountant.

Paid plans are priced per tax year rather than as an ongoing subscription, with cost scaling to how many transactions the account holds. Tiers start near $49 for a small transaction count and rise from there as volume increases. One detail catches new users off guard: Koinly counts transactions cumulatively across every year in the account, not just the current filing year. An old exchange import from years ago can push a light trading year into a higher-priced tier. Clearing out duplicate or defunct wallet connections before upgrading is the easiest way to avoid overpaying.
